Greetings Brothers and Sisters,

I hope you and your families are doing well as we head into spring.

As many of you know there were several changes within the International coming out of the winter meeting. Most notably, General President Callahan announced his retirement. Congratulations to General President Callahan on a long, successful career looking out for the best interests of each member of the IUOE. I would also like to congratulate new General President John Downey. I look forward to General President Downey’s leadership for years to come.

Director of the Northeast Region, Alan Pero’s retirement was also announced at the winter meeting. I wish Alan and his family all the best in retirement, it was a pleasure working with Alan. Alan’s retirement opened a Representative for Northeast Region position with John Stevens moving to Director. Tom McEvoy has been chosen for that position. Thank you to Tom for his ten years at the Training Center as an instructor and congratulations on his new role. It will be nice to have a Local 4 member working as an International Representative. Best of luck Tom.

I would also like to welcome Tyler Moore on board as a full-time instructor at the Training Center. Tyler has been working as a part-time instructor since 2019. Tyler is a graduate apprentice with a lot of experience and knowledge to share with the apprentices and the membership. We are all very happy to have Tyler joining us full-time.

The end of the apprenticeship school year is almost upon us. We have 18 fourth year apprentices who we expect to graduate in June. We look forward to seeing them move on to the next stage in their careers; it has been a great group over the last four years.

The application process for a new apprenticeship class continues through April with interviews currently being conducted. While we expect to have a smaller class than in the past few years, the interest in the program remains very strong. Thank you to the Training Center staff for all their hard work during this busy time, as well as to all the applicants for their interest in the program.

Journey member classes continue throughout the year and are updated frequently on our website. Please sign up for the mobile news network and check the Training Center website as new classes are being added often. Please feel free to reach out to the office if you need assistance with something you don’t see listed on the website—we will do our best to accommodate you.

CDL training and testing has been very time consuming. Our priority during the school year has to be to get first year apprentices their CDL B license, which is a requirement of the program. I know there is a very long waitlist for CDL A testing. We will try to pick up on CDL A training in the spring once the apprentices are complete. Thank you for your patience.

Lastly, it was great to see everyone up in Portland for the March body meeting. It has become a nice tradition to host a meeting up in Maine and see members that we don’t normally see at Florian Hall. Have a safe spring and please reach out if there is anything the Training Center can do to help you.
